Saturday, September 17, 2011, was the Tamika & Friends New York chapter’s annual walk for cervical cancer. Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, supporters, family and friends, the walk was a success! We raised close to $17,000 that will be used in our gift of giving, which pays for pap tests and also provides financial assistance to cervical cancer patients and survivors.
Warming up before the walk!
Thank you to our sponsors; hint water, pop chips, New York Pelvic Pain and Minimally Invasive Gynecological Surgery and the New York chapter of LATISM (Latinos In Social Media). While the entire executive board worked hard to make this walk a success, we could not have done it without the President of the New York chapter of Tamika & Friends, Patti Murillo-Casa, who is also a cervical cancer survivor. Thank you to our keynote speaker, April Lee Hernandezand International Salsa Dancer Maricruz Lora for warming us up. I cannot forget to mention all our volunteers that day, including two of my pageant sister queens, Miss New York Teen National American Miss, Katie Guevarra and Miss New York Pre-Teen National American Miss, Alisa Vasquez.

My challenge to you all that attended the walk is to take take what you have learned outside this event. Pass it on to your contacts, family and friends. Tell them about HPV, cervical cancer and how they can protect themselves. We have way too many women dying and too many people sitting on the sidelines doing nothing. I need your help in increasing awareness by giving cervical cancer a voice. Be part of the movement to eradicate cervical cancer.

Blessings to you all xoxo
