Three Beauty Pageant Tricks Every Woman Should Know!
I often get asked for some beauty tricks or tips that I have learned from my days as a beauty queen. While some things I learned are strictly for the pageant world (hello putting duck tape on your body), there are many tricks that the everyday woman can use to help boost her confidence a bit. Here are three of my favourite tricks I think every woman should know!
Tape is your new best friend.
Do your feet tend to slide forward in heels or open toe shoes? Or are you in-between shoe sizes, and bought a pair that are just a tiny bit big? Putting two pieces of double-sided tape inside your shoe will solve both of these problems! Make sure the inside of your shoe is wiped dry, and that you allowed any lotion you put on your foot to dry as well or you’ll have a hard time making your foot stick. At the end of the day gently peel the tape off to avoid tearing the lining and wipe your shoe clean with a dry cloth to get out any leftover pieces. Another great way to use double-sided tape is to tape your third and fourth toes together to help take the pressure off the ball of your foot. This will extend the amount of time you can wear your high heels pain free!
Tape will also help solve some common clothing problems. If you’re wearing a low-cut blouse or have straps that seem to go everywhere but on your shoulder, putting a piece of tape will help keep your clothing in place. The same rules as before apply, so make sure you are putting tape onto clean and dry skin. Also, if you tend to have gaps in between your button-up shirts, adding a piece of tape will easily solve this annoying problem.
Tumeric for the win!
Tumeric face masks have been used for thousands of years by Indian brides and grooms who wanted to have bright and glowing skin on their big day! It is said to have anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and anti-aging properties. This spice is also known to alleviate acne and acne scars due to its antibacterial properties. There are many variations to the recipe, but a basic one includes:
- 1 teaspoon of tumeric
- 1 teaspoon of raw organic honey
- 1 teaspoon of natural yogurt (plain, unsweetened, probiotic)
Make sure to apply the mask to a clean face, with either disposable gloves or a makeup brush so you don’t stain your hands. If you’re a new mom like me and suffer from lack of sleep and dark circles, be sure to pay attention to the undereye area. Leave on for 5 to 10 minutes at a time, and rinse off well with cold water. If you have very fair skin your skin may be stained, but it will fade by itself overnight, or, you can add some lemon juice to a cotton ball and gently swipe the affected areas.
A little bit of vaseline goes a long way.
I think many of you have heard that pageant girls put a tiny dab of vaseline on their teeth to keep those smiles plastered on their face throughout the competition. It’s true, I’ve done it, and yes, it does work, but how can the everyday woman use it? Here are just a few ways:
- Soothe cracked/dry heels and elbows
- A dab on your earlobe will make earring insertion painless
- Mix with salt and you have a lip scrub, mix with sugar to make a body scrub
- Tame unruly brows with a dab of vaseline to hold them into place
- A dab on the inside of your wrists and behind your ears will help keep your perfume scent last longer
- Make your legs look sun-kissed without the sun by mixing some vaseline with liquid bronzer
